Even back then when this video was made, people notice the Trump failures of hotels, booze and business... Gee, I wonder if that'll run into his political future?

Reference to Jay Leno's Trump joke in the video
"He had Trump Steaks; that went bankrupt. He had Trump Casino; that went bankrupt. And he had Trump Vodka; that went bankrupt. And I say, if you can't make money selling Americans gambling, liquor and meat, how bad a businessman are you, you know? Really?!?"

BUT the video was the basket case

They borrowed that car from Erwin Mack that lived just outside Washington.

I was chief mechanic on that car for 25 years.

I even got to drive it in one local parade, as his chauffer, when he was the Parade Marshal.

This is one of my favorite photos of that car, with me driving.

Well just to dangle the foot over the precipice, I bought my model T after my parents bought me the book - ‘Another fine mess, across Trumpland in a Ford Model T’ by Tim Moore. The author is from the UK and drove a Model T coast to coast through all the Trump voting states. Obviously he was trying to understand the politics of the time, but actually the star is the car and he has lots of history and facts in there.

He ended up keeping the Model T and brought it back to the UK.

Bob:
I would suggest that the 'star(s)' of Moore's book are all the sincere, helpful people he met during his journey across America. So many folks assisted Tim with his model T challenges, and I believe he wrote a fitting tribute to their kindness and generosity. You may have followed his adventures here on the forum as he was doing the research for the book; if you have then you know the identity of many of those who helped keep him and his model T going. The style and theme of this book is not unlike others he has written, a human-interest story disguised as a spur of the moment travel adventure.

And welcome to the Model T community, I look forward to reading about your adventures here on the Forum. Respectfully, jb

That is a fine looking T. Well back in the day the economy was doing well, lots of innovation, if you wanted a job you could get a job, wages were moving up, industry growing. People took chances if they failed they could try again. It appeared that things were improving for the average American & the future was bright for the country & just like that it changed, there was a so called recession, Wall Street went a little crazy, people were divided, the rumors of a world at war was beginning to happen, a world wide pandemic approached that killed millions. It really changed everything in America & this all took place in just a short time. Hard to believe how things can change in a short period of time.

Are you talking 1918 or 2018? it could almost apply to either 1 as ww3 is sneeking up on us as i type.

Mack, certainly not that would be political. As a student of history, I was merely making an observation of the times and how quickly things change if we are not good stewards. Anyone that would cherry pick failure or success without fair balance really can’t be taken seriously as it would skew the understanding. Everything is not one color. Take the oft quoted model T color choices,“you can have any color you like as long as it’s black.” Simply not accurate unless you add conditions such “during these years”. There will always be people that try to divide others for unknown reasons, perhaps it’s something lacking in them that compels them to purposely create strife knowing that a certain statement will, even as I am want to do. In the USA we have the First Amendment which often is minimized to Freedom of Speech, it is much more than that. As with all things cerebral, having the wisdom to exercise these inalienable rights publicly is at the discretion of the user. Create peace or create war. What are the other choices? “Other than that Mrs Lincoln, how was the play?”

I guess that some see the glass as half-empty, others see it as half-full. I'm one of the others. I'm in reasonable health, the house is paid for, there are four cars (actually three cars and a truck) in the driveway and they are all paid for, I have a TV and a refrigerator, inside hot water, a swimming pool, health insurance, clothing to wear, a few dollars in my pocket, I eat regularly, Some money in the bank and I have a few other investments. I didn't inherit any significant amount of money. What percentage of the world's population can say that? What a great country!

John I couldn’t agree more Thus the “how quickly things can change in a short period of time” it’s all in the perspective of the reader/observer.

“Hard times make hard men
Hard men make good times
Good times make weak men
Weak men make hard times”

Ted was wrong on the year.

The car was made in November 1909, but the 1910 Model Year started in October 1909.

The issue is often not agreed as to which year the car should be classified as.

A friend has a T made in November 1911 and titled as a 1912, just because he likes even numbers.

Michigan was one of the first states to have titles, partly because it was so easy to hot wire and steal a Model T.

Titles started around 1920 and cannot verify the situation.

The previous owner always called it a 1911/1912

This is that T.

I rarely post but do read the forum multiple times each day. I always use my name but am not the author Tim Moore, just a different Tim Moore in Michigan. Please don't confuse me with someone else's political commentary.

The only things I have written is how not to get killed at work (Standard Operating Procedures) and some papers on entomology and invasive species at the University where I am now retired from.

Tim Moore the American.

Great story. I like the trunk/picnic basket? and corresponding rack on the rear of the car. Do you know if it is an authentic accessory or something homemade?

Agree 1000%. I'm actually surprised to see this thread keep popping up, I figured it would be locked by now. The original topic was cool, I love the whole premise of commuting in a T (hey, I even did that for a while!) but regardless of my political views, or your views on my politics, they have no place in polite company. Or on this national club forum. ;-)

Back in the day, New York City horses contributed to 100 tons of manure.... Now that is congestion! ..... The Ford motor car certainly did reduce that.

Politics has changed a lot since I was young. In those days fewer people got angry when someone disagreed. They would listen to what the other was saying. Some ideas are good and others not so good. When a majority came to an agreement the idea passed. Now you have to buy a whole platform or you are evil! We should do more listening and less fighting. Actually, people can disagree and still be friends! However people will be more likely to listen if we state what we believe and then Shut up!

I read somewhere that you need three things for a productive discussion…
Tolerance
Reason
Debate

Seems these days we never even get 2…

C'mon guys!
Can we all just agree to disagree?
We all harp about how everything is poloticized and yet for some of it, we do it to ourselves!

As my mom says, its time to change the subject!

Well I hope my bit was not seen as political. I mean the book was a bit, but only from trying to explain a phenomenon. It also came from the view that (in the words of Frank Drebin) no matter how silly the idea… insert preferred choice… as British people we must be gracious and considerate.

Each to their own, our politics over here is just depressing. By the way do remember at thanksgiving dinner tables that a lot of the disagreement has been amplified by Russian bots spreading exaggeration and hatred in the intent of sowing the seeds of division. We have suffered that a lot over here too. Blimin social media is our weakness and the Russians, Chinese, North Koreans, Iranians and Canadians know it. It will be our downfall unless we learn to develop a sense of humour or the ability to ignore and let it go.

Now I am off to watch the Simpsons (the older episodes that were good). Our chief God person over here called the Simpsons "one of the most subtle pieces of propaganda around in the cause of sense, humility and virtue’. That was after he saw the ones that dealt with Homer, religion and showed God giving Flanders a cantankerous sore and Jimi Hendrix in heaven too. So if a guy in a dress with all the dogma of a thousand years or more of protocol and engrained righteousness surrounding his every move can have a sense of humour and not let himself get riled up by indignant rage at any perceived slight, then perhaps there is hope that we can also just chill and take a joke too.
