I’ve restored probably a couple hundred coils and have never seen these before. One is marked Kingston with SPECIAL stamped in the end. The other is marked Detroit Coil Co.

What does the top of the Kingston look like and does it have a regular contact pattern like a t or is it different?

It is the same, uses standard points.

Maybe the coil marked "special" is Kingston's version of a Model T tractor coil.

Odd? yes, but not uncommmon.
After rebuilding over 24,000 Model T coils I've seen quite a few differentr companies who marketed (and marked with their logo) ignition coils for Model T's

In thirty-five years working on coils i have only seen one.

Maybe a contract with the US government that was short lived? Probably never know for sure.

I have some NOS Kingston points.
