Can someone post a picture of the correct routing for the Timer connecting rod. Mine is all well bent up, and hits/rubs on a few items.

Now that I have fixed my timing rod lever (poor description), she just is not running quite right. I think I need to be able to get a little more advance while at cruising speed.

FYI, I am assuming the root issue here is due to my Anderson timer probably needs to be replaced as the tabs are getting well-worn after 15K to 20K miles on it. I will see about order a new one in the near future.

Mine was so mangled and contorted after years and years of farm abuse, that I just ordered a new one.

That is what I was thinking of doing when I order a new timer. But in the mean time, I was thinking of giving it a few more twists.

The rod should go from the lower end of the steering column, under the radiator hose and over above the timer. The exact bending of the rod is not important except for the following. It should not rub on the hose or any other thing while operating the spark lever. The length of the rod adjusted by bending it must be such that when the spark lever is all the way up, the timer should cause the spark to occur a few degrees after the piston reaches top dead center on the firing stroke. You can find many posts on how to time the engine. The exact position depends on your timer. Sometimes the rod must be adjusted when changing the timer. They are not all the same. Anyway, the important thing is to not have a lot of slack in the mechanism and have the length correct without rubbing on other engine parts.

Interesting post about the correct timer rod shape. Maybe it’s just me but my 3 black era T’s have slightly different contours and not exactly alike. One is an original and 2 are newer reproductions.
I wonder if all the timer rods were prebent in a general shap and contour at the factory before installation on the assembly line. Maybe they had a jig to bend them on and had boxes full of them next to the line so they could install them. Any way just a thought.

? of course they would have been pre-bent.
