Event forum for T Events
So, I guess no event forum to post T events on? I was hoping we could get one so when someone finds an event they could post it without it getting lost in the other topics. How about it guys? Do we need one? Dan

Dan:
an event listing topic would be a great idea … I try to note swapmeet dates and tours on my calendar but will often hear of an event after the fact … 2 that I would add to an event listing are the swapmeets at McPherson College and our Model T swapmeet in Denver … both are small , but are good meets for Model T and Model A parts … not many Dodge Brothers parts for my interest , but good meets … the Denver Model T swapmeet is June 8th at the Adams county fairgrounds …our regional AACA meet is the 3rd weekend of September ... will post more info and contact numbers later … always an optimist...Gene French

Re: Event forum for T Events
FWIW, The MTFCA home page has an events tab.
Possibly some things may not be on there, but most MTFCA affiliated events are.

Re: Event forum for T Events
Yes there is an event page. But read what you have to do to get something posted there. Why not have a forum page where anyone could post swap meets, car shows, cruises or estate auctions. Sometimes you do not hear of them in time for it to get posted on the event page. Dan

Re: Event forum for T Events
Just as there is a Forum dedicated to vehicles for sale, there should be a Forum dedicated to Events.
Then one could go to the Event Forum not only for a calendar of events, but discussion of whose going, what they are bringing, who bought what, pictures, contact numbers, etc. etc. That keeps the Main Forum clear and makes finding Event info easy in a location where one can ask questions about the Event.
The more people who know about Events the better the Events will be attended. This is a win-win.
Mr. Hatch has an excellent idea for a separate Event Forum which would make finding out about Events easier.

Re: Event forum for T Events
YES we need a event forum heading I think it would be great to be able to list and find period correct events, auctions, sales, and tours under it's own heading. I currently go on the web and look under "Big Al's List" to see what is happening but you need to wade through non period car happenings to find an event.

Re: Event forum for T Events
I'm going to be the contrarian here. I read the General Discussion Forum, but only occasionally go to the ever-expanding list of other forums. If a post on the GDF is marked "OT" (which worked fine for years on the old forum and for a while on this one), I will decide from the subject whether to read it, but even if I do, there is no extra effort involved beyond a single click. When the OT Forum was instituted, I started reading it occasionally, but don't often bother to go there. I will treat the Events Forum (which I gather is inevitable) the same way, i.e. I will only read it occasionally and, if there is an event four miles from my house, I will probably not know about it.
I was taught years ago that the rule of thumb in the old-car hobby is a good one for life, i.e. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." The rule may apply to old cars themselves, but I am coming to the realization that it doesn't apply to old-car forums. ("Hey, I have an idea. Why don't we have a separate forum for [fill in the blank]?"

Re: Event forum for T Events
Dick,
I look at it from a different point of view. I don't have to scroll down through a thousand posts on the general forum to try to find an event that I may wish to attend. The event may be lost deep down the line and I may miss the opportunity to see other members or cars. And hell I'm so good looking and charming I'm sure other members are dying to meet me!

Re: Event forum for T Events
It bugs me to have to go to all the different sub-forums when there isn't all that much traffic in them (or the whole forum all together).
Because of that, I've switched from clicking all the forums to reading "Unread Posts" located in the "Quick links" pulldown menu. I've actually copied the link address into my bookmark for the MTFCA Forum, so it always comes straight up when I go to the forum.
Use this link and you get to see everything, every time.

I do think that a separate forum site for old car events would be very useful , and do hope that it can be instituted here … very often event announcements are lost in the more recent postings … my vote would be a resounding yes … I usually post our local and regional swapmeet events and auctions ...IF I know of the event in advance … always an optimist...Gene French

Re: Event forum for T Events
I like the idea of an event forum, I do not use the other forums often but if I was to start using an event forum I may use it on a regular basis just to see what's going on.
so in the spirit of "what's happening"
here is a link to an auction in Cleveland Oklahoma on June 13th by Chupps Auction Co.
I do not see much model T stuff in the photos. Mostly just an assortment of all things old car related. "but" some of the best finds I have ever made came from "general parts" types of auctions. I can not make this one because it is during the Petitt Jean Arkansas swap meet that I have never missed in 40 years.
So if anyone goes, have fun and let me know how things were selling ... I promise not to cry too much when you tell me of all the good deals

Re: Event forum for T Events
We should have a forum for T events, then there should be a forum for off topic car events, and lets make a forum for OT cars for sale while were at it. A simple classifieds and discussing forum where someone would list a car or a topic as OT seemed to work very well and would be happy reducing back down
"Those who fail to plan, plan to fail"
