I now have a Stromberg OF on my 23 touring. It seems to run good and I can tell a difference in low end power and performance. But I have never been in or near another T with one so I don’t know what it’s supposed to be like. Top end is not much different than the straight thru NH I had on it. What should I expect? I have a z head and early aluminum intake.

The only reason I pulled my OF from the truck was I could not get it
to stop leaking when not in use. I felt it ran very well and helped scoot
the truck along better than anything else I ever ran on it. I stuck a bored-
-out NH on it, and that runs well and reliably too, but I think the OF
performed better. I haul a lot of heavy loads.

Where I use to live I had a hill that in a 45 mpg zone my NH would top at 28 to 30 and the OF on my 23 touring gained 5 mph so it was 33 to 35 mph.
I also out ran another restored teen something touring one time with only a driver while there were 4 adults in my touring.
The OF holds out or goes on longer vs my NH. Does not help off the line but never feels it is starving for fuel.
I feel it wants another gear more than more fuel but I'm also not a slow driver.

Also nice not the have to spin the knows and turn the wheels to get just the right carb adjustment while driving. It is nice to "set it and forget it" just as if Ron Popiel made a manifold cooker for the T.

Brent, my OF weeps from the bottom of the vertical throttle shaft. I found an interesting modification on an original OF I bought at a swap meet that fixed that. Over the bottom of the shaft they had soldered a cap to the carb body. Simple, but I wonder if there were any implications for the fuel being retained/accumulated.

I'm running an OF on two of my T's. I replaced a good NH and a Simmons. They pull hills real good.

Are there any problems starting an OF in a non starter car. My NH starts right up and I’d hate to lose that.

I don't know Andy, I'd leave well enuf alone. I installed an OF on my 27 with electric start and I honestly don't see much difference in performance between it and a straight thru NH it replaced. It does idle better however.

Can't address your question re an OF on a crank start car
but you'd need a way to choke it. If memory serves you can attach the standard choke rod that passes thru the radiator but Im not sure about that.Tim Morsher made a good relica of the steering column choke. If you decide to try the OF I may be able to locate one for you.

Andy, Simply connect the choke wire to the OF. I don't have any problems starting different than any other carb. Each car may be different, I give two pulls on a cold engine with throttle opened and full choke. Starts with quarter pull every time in the garage. The more people Watching the higher the odds are it'll Never start... Ha ha

The OF was the best selling carb of the day for $15. and that was a pretty good amount then and today they also bring a premium. Good Luck with yours
