How tall is the tallest T?

Post by Steve Hughes » Mon May 27, 2019 3:13 pm

I am wondering how tall the tallest T is. This could be an open car with the top up or the highest point on an enclosed car. I am thinking standard production cars and not custom bodied or TT. Anyone have this information?

I will hazard a guess as to the tallest Model T it would be the Coupe. The other one would be the town car but I don't think it was a high production model.

Coupes and sedans generally are not quite as tall as touring cars and runabouts with the tops up. But only by a couple inches.
My guess would be, not counting the landaulet/town cars, the '09 touring car top is the tallest of all the tops, and in the up position would be the tallest of the standard Ts.
TTs of course can be anything goes. I think the tallest T I ever saw was a TT with a circus calliope on it. Stood just short of twelve feet.

Thanks Wayne. That’s why I was going for the standard production cars and not TT or custom body models. Do you happen to know what the height of the ‘09 touring would be?

One of our Forum Friends close to the Piquette Assembly Plant could measure old #230. It’s top is up. FWIW, my ‘19 centerdoor is 7’3”...
I don’t know why I turned out this way. My parents were decent people.

If a center door is 7' 3", that makes it 87". A stock TT closed/box cab is 84" at the back of the cab,
making a center door a solid 3" taller than a TT ! Hoodathunkit ? I believe the closed/box cab is the
tallest stock version of the TT.
More people are doing it today than ever before !

Just measured a 1913 Huckster at 84.5 Inches to the top of the crown at the center, and a 1911 Touring right at 84.5 inches at the second for the rear top bow - which is even all the way across. I have no knowledge or references to the 1909 Touring cars.

Well, so far the 1919 centerdoor has the title as the tallest. I will have to get my '21 centerdoor off of the jack stands so I can measure it. Thanks George for that one. So who do we know at the Piquette plant?

I wanted to see how tall my 09 touring is a while back and took out the rear floor with the top up held in place with ropes and new wood bows (no top material yet) it was 87" from shop floor to top of wood bow. This is with 30x3 on front and 30x3 1/2 rear but the wood may not be 100% right since I didn't put it in and have no original to compare it to. Now I need to check my trailer door! :?

I would wager that a stock Town Car or Landaulet would be taller and a '09 Coupe might be taller yet. But, since there may be a dozen or less of all of those cars, combined, most of us commoners are safe.

What I’m getting from this is that if I want a closed car (which I do) I’ll have to build a new garage...

Well, now with the measurement for the ‘09 touring (thanks Bob) the 87” still stands. I think that gives me the information that I need. Thanks to all for your responses.

Steve,

Please note that my 09 may not be 100% correct so if your trailer is for an 09 Touring add a couple inches at least to be safe. Maybe others will let us know how close mine is because I am not an expert on it and have a lot to learn myself. :ugeek:
