Any ideas on how to make a running board spare tire carrier for a Demountable wheel? Any suggestions from those who have made one?

Very interesting! But where do the two arms bolt to under the body?

The late Jack Daron used to make this style, I have one on my 1924.

Here is the one I picked up at Hershey a few years ago. I am certain one could reproduce these.

I have an original blacksmith made one like this on my 1920 backboard.

This one I copied from it. The beauty of the design is you need not drill any Ford component to fit it A leather strap holds the tyre/rim in the cradle, and second strap holds the top against the bottom of the top bow. Allan from down under.

Allan, I like the simplicity of it, as well as not having to drill extra holes! Can you please send some detailed pictures of yours with the wheel and straps in place?

Bill, this one is on my Henrietta. The cradle is forward to stop the tyre moving forward. The strap at the back goes through two footman loops screwed to the front cross member of the tray. The one on my backboard uses the four bolts at the rear end of the running board, with a strap around it at the bottom, and another at the top around the base of the top bow.
I had forgotten about the one on my 1912 van.
It has no straps at all. The cradle is mounted on the back four bolts. Because the van has Hayes wire wheels, the top of the lugged rim is bolted to a fixed -in -place stud on the body doorway.

Alan, in the first post you mention that the second strap holds the top of the tire against the bottom of the top bow, but in the second post the back strap is held by two footman loops attached to the crossmember of the tray? I’d be putting the cradle on the drivers side since the door doesn’t open, so which of the two back strap methods would work best? Also, forgive my ignorance but what is the tray with a crossmember?

Bill my Roadster backboard is buried in the back corner of my garage, so I can't get photos of it for you. The photos in my post are of Henrietta, my barn fresh tourer backboard. It has a wooden tray which is full width, sitting over and above the rear fenders, and extending forward almost to the front doors. The spare shown is strapped to the front wooden cross member of the flat tray, so the cradle uses the front running board and fender bolts.

My Roadster backboard uses the back holes in the running board and fender bolts, so the spare tyre is back far enough that the door can still be used. Then the second strap simply goes around the tyre and the bottom of the top iron just above the mounting bracket coming out the side of the car.
