A source to buy ignition switch?
I need an ignition switch assembly to get a 1923 running I have the key and ammeter but the back wiring assembly has detached I figure just buy a repo and do new wiring harness Langs, Snyders and Macs have no assemblies Does anyone know anther parts supplier I can call? My other choice is to learn how to attach the wiring harness attachment plate to the old key metal assembly! Another new skill to learn !!!! I do see they have the repair parts available I also need to learn to install hood latches as the sill attachment plates are worn out rusted

Why not buy an original off ebay? They are on there all the time. I wonder if anyone is making the correct short switch loom yet?

Lang's lists one on Page 146 of their current paper catalog.

Re: A source to buy ignition switch?
My experience with repo switch and key assemblies is similar to what some others have posted here, namely, repos are not well made and do not interchange well with original parts. Unfortunately current repos are the same from all vendors and are the only 'new' ones available. I agree using a serviceable old part here is preferable if you can find one. Many used switch assemblies I've seen on ebay and at flea markets are well used and often warped from age and water. That said, I'd still search for a good used one before ordering a new replacement, vendors sometimes have functional old parts in their stashes but you have to inquire. Good luck, jb

Ben Martin may be able to rebuild what you have. His home number is 770-983-3376. He doesn't do e-mail, just telephone and regular mail.

Post a photo of what you are working with maybe we can offer up some suggestions. I am trying to picture what parts you have on hand and what has come loose. Last time I checked a few months back, Langs had some of the parts. You could also check with Chaffins or Macs.

Re: A source to buy ignition switch?
Yes, let's see what you have. Chances are it's an easy fix if all the parts are there. Many years ago I bought a new backing plate because the original one was warped. That reproduction happened to be excellent, but I won't be buying another since I found out how easy it is to fix the old ones. In the unlikely event that your switch really is too far gone, eBay may be the best remedy.
The inevitable often happens.

Re: A source to buy ignition switch?
I agree with Steve. They re easy to fix. Usually one of the brass curved plates needs bent "back up" is all to engage the switch arm contact points. Takes longer to unhook all the wires than to make the repair. Only exception may be a case of extreme corrosion

Re: A source to buy ignition switch?
Covet your original lock cylinders if they are in good shape. The reproductions are really crappy and need a lot of rework to become usable. It would help if the maker did not put the heavy crappy plating job on the tumbler as most of that needs to be machined or ground off to have any chance of working...............I’ll post a picture, as I have a pile of parts, and if something looks like it would help, I’ll send it off to you. I know the removable fiber disc with contacts come in two styles, one with brass pins around the edge, and the other with notches. Lots of different makers of these originally and not all parts interchange. In fact, most do not. Cute little truck, enjoy!

Call Bobs antique auto parts. He sells T parts. I have bought certain T parts from him when the others didn’t have them. There are other T parts suppliers out there besides Snyder’s, Lang’s and Macs.

Re: A source to buy ignition switch?
We make copies of the original pin and tab switch backs only. We sell them to Langs. Haven't heard any complaints.

Find an original somewhere and clean it up and repair as needed.
They're pretty robust little things.

Re: A source to buy ignition switch?
Sure but at a point the paper used to make the parts get just too warped and separated to fix. I like the pin type, but think they have the most issues. The pressure pushing up from the contacts on those 3 pins causing separation of the laminated paper substrate seems to be the biggest issue. If not too bad they can be fixed. I would suggest if doing a repair, the detentes where the contacts sit closing the circuit be deepened a little. If repairing the pin type, the pins are not evenly spaced. They are made this way so the back is properly clocked to the switch. google "mtfca; switch repair"
