Model T Long Weekend - 1958

I found this postcard from 1958 mixed in with some old papers for a Model T Long Weekend in Helendale, CA (between Barstow and Victorville.) From Arcadia, CA to Helendale, following Route 66, was about 80 miles, going over Cajon pass out into the High Desert. Quite the adventure for a tired 20 horsepower engine.
My Grandfather's unrestored cut-off touring made it as far as San Dimas before developing a serious rod knock, so he had to hitch-hike back home. The story ends happily, however, as the gentleman who gave him a ride was an old citrus grower who happened to have a bunch of Model T Parts that he wanted to sell. As you probably guessed by now, Grandfather bought the whole darn pile!

Thanks for sharing your story Rodger, those “stashes” of parts are still out there
just waiting. So did your Grandfather get his cutoff touring back home?

Yes he was able to drag it home somehow, and a refresh was done on the motor. I'm pretty sure he had a trailer. This car was sold off long before my time. Unfortunately I don't know of any pictures of it.
