Hello to all my MTFCA friends!

I have a question regarding changing over to LED bulbs in my headlights, and I notice the new LED bulbs are not turned to the correct position. The bulbs I am trying to use came from one of our vendors Logo Lite No. A-3007-LED. I believe when correctly installed, they should be horizontal in appearance with a red dot that should be on top. I do not get the horizontal positioning as the bulb sockets will not allow that to happen. Do I need a different socket for this or a different LED bulb if one is available? Has anyone else encountered this problem? I want to dim & bright my lights as I should be able to.

$50 apiece is too steep for me. I will use the $20 light. As long as I can see the side of the road I am good.

First please confirm your bulb your having trouble with , think you left out the 1 is it A-13007. Best to post a picture of your bulb to get help
Other than correcting to orientation of the bulb as described in the instructions there isn't much adjustment, even for a filament bulb.
So if you still have a problem then need to check your lens as it focuses the light. If it is a standard FORD Model T H fluted lens the flutes should be in a vertical,( up & down).

Yes I did leave out the 1. It is an A-13007. Sorry!
To answer another post, I want brighter light at night, the same reason other people want brighter lights. I know incandescent lights do work if you want dimmer lights. To each his own. Thank you!

I believe there were problems with the orientation of the bulb filaments in new bulbs and reproduction sockets at some time.

If you have the correct combination there is plenty of adjustment in the focus screw which determines the depth of the socket in the lamp body.

My car is a non electric model. The headlamps operate directly from the magneto. No battery. Will these bulbs work on my car?

LED bulb literature says they would operate from 5 to 30 volts. Now is that AC or DC volts? ....Electric Magneto AC lighting has the bulbs connected in series which means power goes from one bulb through to another bulb to ground... If one bulb fails they all will not illuminate.... If idle speed doesn't give the 5 volts, those bulbs may not light up...., if your magneto exceeds 30 volts, could they burn out?....., if you don't get an favorable answer on this, it may be worth the try for you to test yourself with LEDs.....Good Morning,. Now, I think I'll have my first cup of coffee and wait for the answers.

Even with new bulbs filament bulbs the orientation is not correct from original production units. Bill Robinson and I found we had a left right shift in light instead of high and dim. We rotated the sockets 90 degrees to correct this issue. When we went to LED headlight bulbs, the orientation for them is also correct.

If you want to run the 5 to 30 volt LED type lights off a Ford magneto, adding a small battery and a rectifier to charge the battery from the magneto would be advantageous. I'd use a 12 volt, non-spill, riding mower size battery. Adding the battery will provide ample and stable voltage and current to the lights, and you will have good strong lighting available with the engine off or running at low idle. I suspect the LED lights would last longer and perform better with a stable power supply. Adding a choke coil to the system would further stabilize the power supply. Having the 12 volt battery on board could also make cold starting easier, and modern electronic toys could be powered from it. With a system like this, I'd connect all lights in parallel rather than series. Be sure that no battery current can reach the magneto. The rectifier set should prevent this.

I guess they would be worth the price if you were doing a lot night time driving. I cant remember the last time I had my T out after dark. But who knows, I might just pick up a set some day just to keep up with the Jones. I do have a set of ten year old halogens in at the moment. I think I might have turned them on three times in ten years and two of those times was just to check to see if they were still working!

Thanks for the video it does show some good results with thee "Focused Led" bulbs. An easy justification for them is that its not necessary to replace the headlight reflectors ($38.95 each) since the really don't serve any purpose since the Focused Bulb contains its own reflector.
The filament bulbs light source is adjustable to be at the focal point of the reflector for optimum light distribution. This is necessary for any type of bulb dependent on using the reflector. Its easy to see that the Focused LED lens is well beyond that and the reflector is just capturing light emitted from lens glass. The picture below shows the difference in how the headlight reflector illuminates the Headlight lens making the Filament bulb look brighter. So these would be better for those wanting daytime running lights vs night driving. --

Also the headlight lens is not the stock fluted lens but a Velvet Rays. The first generation of headlights were plain flat glass that blinded (really?) on coming drivers (cars & buggies), so laws were past for the lens to provide a sharp cut off of light, hence he darkened hood on many aftermarket lens of that period --

In comparing light output, white light (6500K) will always look brighter than warm light (4000K) for the same amount of lumens (that the measure of actual light) . Warmer light gives better definition of object. In looking at the arrows in the attached you can see the differences in the shadows but note too the difference in the light reflect off the pole.

You’re gonna love them!

May have to get a pair of those focus type LEDs to try.

Have installed a pair of these types, which have an array on the side to help throw beam against the parabolic reflectors.
The reflector in the '24 are old silver plate and in perhaps good condition, but not a good as those new reflectors with the aluminized super finish, may have to get those too.

On Bright setting, fair at night, but only at low speeds, faster would outrun the beam.[/b]


From outside they look bright, but really not too good for use IMO.

Harvey, forgive me if this sounds stupid, but was the difference between magneto headlights versus generator headlights not that the sockets for the bulb were 90deg. off between the two and that causes your filaments to be oriented vertical instead of horizontal ?
