26 coupe original sun visor question

What is the small hole in the visor side piece for?
On any of the pictures that I have seen on the forum this hole is not present. It’s on both side pieces.

Also does anyone have a photo of how the flat metal piece is placed on the cover and the tabs bent back over to hold the cover on. Not sure what it’s supposed to look like when finished.

Jesse,

The flat metal piece looks exactly as you show it, except the covering goes under it. The two fold-over tabs go through two slits the cover material, the metal plate slips over the tabs, and the tabs are bent down as you've shown them. In other words, it's visible when everything is done so, be sure to paint it nicely.

The small holes you refer to do not belong there.

Be sure the strip along the leading edge of the frame has not been too weakened by rust. It's common that they are... Now is the time to reinforce it, if need be. Otherwise, a good gust of wind can break it and ruin your day.

So that makes sense to me. The ribs are not encased with the fabric. Thanks

YES, they are. What's shown above is not correct.

Thanks Jerry, so the leatherette is placed around the frame and then tucked up inside and sewn. Then screwed into the wooden header. I guess some kind of glue or such is used to attach the side pieces to keep them from puckering after the metal pieces are installed.

Thanks for the pictures. They really help.

Jesse,

There is no glue used in my visor. The covering slips snuggly over the frame and is stitched shut across the back edge.

I bought my all original (except for the red paint), never restored 1926 Fordor in 2004 that I sold in 2022, but I still have a lot of pictures. It had the original factory installed roof and sunvisor, although the sunvisor was missing those brackets under each edge. I attribute it to the factory workers at that station who may have been pressured by the speed of the line, may have been short on time and chose not to install them. Unlike in your picture, the material was slid onto the frame like a pillow case with material on the top and bottom totally enclosing the frame and stitched around the inside of each opening of the frame to bring the two halves together and make it tight. That’s interesting I wonder if the fordor was done differently?
