Center main bearing cap question

Anyone seen a cap like this? Are the adjustments for thrust uptake?

With the 2 grub screws only to adjust one way, I'd say it's purpose is to close the mag gap.

It’s an adjustable main cap. A old trick to get you by with an original cap is to use a rat tail file and slot the holes enough to move it in closer. The best location to do this is with the rear main to lessen the end play.

Hi Douglas,
This is one I picked up a few years ago, it's a little simpler design but should work the same. I would bet it was a fast repair for a otherwise
time consuming repair.

Adv for that type of cap to manage end-play.
And a couple of more devices to keep the mag strong
