Looking at the post on reworking the lugs on narrow drums, can a lug be made to fit the current size of the lugs and taking the disc's and cutting or grinding the notch wider and deeper in the disc. If you removed all the material from one side you would have a better chance of keeping things even and in balance.
I know some of us come up with weird ideas but thinking out side the box has made a lot of things work.

It's possible theoretically. Imagine the replaceable shoes only wider.
The replaceable shoes have a tab punched & a corresponding Groove in the drum to keep them in position & from slipping thru.
The existing boss would have to have enough material for the shoe to sit on and/or some filler used.
Thirdly, the large disks are hard spring steel. Re-cut with a laser, EDM, or grind.

Since top quality new drums are available made for replaceable steel shoes, the effort would seem non economically feasible.

I am with John on this one, have seen drums where people have tried to do this and the hardened shoes have came loose and going through the engine shorting field coil and breaking brass magnet clamp screws off.
