Why won't my 1923 touring start...

Post by Steve Jelf » Sun Jun 02, 2019 3:09 pm

...on battery? Somebody will get this in about half a heartbeat. We'll see who gets it first. When I turn the ignition key to BAT the coils don't buzz. So I start it on MAG. Then, when I switch it over to BAT it keeps running. It will run on BAT, but will only start on MAG. How come?

Battery is dead. Car is running off generator, until you get a new battery.

Or charge the one I have. That didn't take long at all. I think I know what drained it. I'll fix that when I install the new wiring.

Something like that. It's wrong for sure. The reproduction wiring harnesses from forty or fifty years ago have the wrong colors, which is not a big deal, but some wrong sized wire, which is.

It seems to be a Universal Law that, at some time in its life, every old car's wiring will fall into the clutches of someone who really should not be allowed out without his mother.
