How the heck did those kids get that log up on that trailer?

What kind of tree is that?

The TT looks pretty beat, and missing the hood, fenders, one headlight lens. Don't know if it ever had a full cab or not? I wonder how old it was at that point, still working hard?

Stupid computer did a "magic swipe" and double posted. The dang thing half the time doesn't respond to my clicking on the clicker, but a dozen times a day it will go someplace I don't want it too just because I am moving the curser from where it was to where I need it.

Can’t make out the license plate, which would give us the year of the photo. Maybe someone can enhance the image ?

The log looks a bit like ponderosa. Plate could tell us a general location if we could read it. Loggers still use a similar method, adjustable “reach” between trucks, sometimes the load itself becomes the “reach”. Big log would have been skidded off an incline parallel to the truck, possibly with the assistance of a team of horses.

Didn’t all TTs come with the coil box on the firewall ? This one has it ‘New and Improved’ style. And I’m surprised to see a TT used in this manner with rear pneumatic tires. For these reasons, I feel this chassis was adapted from another life - delivery or farm…

I recon it's a deadwood tree!

I zoomed in close, it appears to be an earlier slanted coil box that has been moved onto the engine for some unknown reason. The firewall also appears to have the holes in it for a coil box.
The clothing looks like it could be 1930s, so the truck could be about ten years old? However, casual and work clothing didn't change a whole lot. That photo could be anywhere from mid 1920s to even 1960.
The photo quality however (focus, saturation , etc.), appears more likely a cheap prewar camera and film. Cheap film quality improved a lot through the war years.

I see a wrapper around the log and the reach on the trailer. You do not do that as it will not allow the reach to move fore and aft as you make a turn. Being a single log it should be secured to the bunks on the truck and trailer.

Rich, your reference to the "reach" reminded me of such a load I witnessed some years ago. The "truck:" was a Datsun 180B sedan, with a roof rack. the load was a length of black poly drain pipe about 2' in diameter and some 30' long. The dolly at the back was a 6' x 4' trailer with a cage. The pipe was rope lashed to the roof rack and the trailer. The cops had pulled the driver over at the time. Can't imagine why!
