Freshly rebuilt Transmission, when the low speed pedal is depressed it sticks. The "book" says to tighten the band, when I tighten the band just enough to keep it from sticking, then the car creeps. There is 1/16" play on the clevis.

Were the relined transmission bands perfectly round upon installation?. .. what type of lining are you using?.,... What method was used with installing you're relined bands ?

Check your linkage's via the above diagram.

So what was done to the HH & pedal shafts?
Were O rings installed - Set up too tight.
New bushed pedal shafts - set too tight.
New band return springs or are you using the old compressed one?
You should feel NO resistance in the pedal movement without the return spring in neutral.

One more thing. Is the pedal dragging the floorboard or floor mat? It must be free to move. It moves inward when depressed, so would move to the right and the slot must be wide enough to clear both when in neutral and high and also when in low. Band must be perfectly round so it can be adjusted as tight as it can without any drag against the drum until it clamps down about 1 1/2 inch above the floorboard.

Do you know the condition of your low pedal cam, (called a "notch" for some reason)? A worn notch will only allow for minimal actuation of your low band, meaning your band needs to be adjusted way too close in order for it to grab at all. Conversely, if you back it off enough so that it doesn't drag, the pedal needs to move way too far to engage the band, if it ever does before overriding the notch and sticking.

I initially had this issue when I first adjusted the low speed linkage on two engines that I rebuilt. It was because the linkage at that stage was being allowed to go over center and that essentially "locked" the pedal in the low speed position. This can happen when the linkage and arm on the low speed pedal are in a straight line. The two pieces are shown in yellow on the sketch.

I was able to get the linkage properly adjusted so that it would not go over center. You may want to try a combination of adjusting the freeplay a bit more, plus the band adjustment to see if you can chase this issue out. If not you may need to make a longer link as suggested in another post.

Success! Thanks for all the good suggestions, but the culprit was the Low Band Spring. It was not strong enough, sort of like not having enough lead in your pencil.
After replacing the spring and a bit of adjusting, she's back on the road and ready to tour!

The brake and the reverse springs should be changed too.

I have not worked on a T that didn't need a band new spring or 2.
I PLAN on replacing all 3 with each band relining.
