Because every T I have acquired has had a bad mag I have come to appreciate distributors. The other day I picked up a distributor that I have
never seen before. It uses Jeep cap, rotor, points & condenser. It was removed because it does not fit well. It appears to be for only 26-27
timing covers because it collides with the fan adjusting boss & bolt. It has two bulges that may have been intended to anchor it to the cover.
Anyone know anything about this distributor??? Thanks Guys.

We all have an opinion so here goes...lol..rather than deal with a dizzy and all the moving parts to wear as well as points, condensers etc. if I didn't have a working mag then I'd surely switch to the electronic timer that doesn't require a mag. I even have 4 "electronic coils" on the shelf that I had a young college kid make up for me a while back. They require 12 volts is the only caveat. But they do work great. Be a while before I need them so I may sell them rather than have em collect dust.

I have been running one of these for many years trouble free. They were made in Argentina back in the '60s. I drilled 1/4" holes in the two tabs and mating holes in the timing cover and tapped for 1/4" bolts. The head on mine is a match to an Autolite IAD 400, commonly used on mid 50s Jeep. And yes, must use the 26-7 front cover and fan set up. Also mine came with auto advance springs and weights. I removed them and riveted the two plates together and added a lever the the case for the advance rod. You will need to fashion bell crank lever for reversing the timing rod, similar to the early 009 distributors.

The base does remind me of the Argentina unit that came on my first T. Yours was polished
I remember the cap clips were thin sheet metal, not typical of normal dizzy cap clips.
The head was cast iron. Pinto points fit.
It Did fit on my pre 26 cam cover plate.

I have one similar to the one shown. Mine too will only work with the 1926/27 timing gear cover. I think the distributor body is Industrial Argentina origin but was going to use the 009 VW distributor in its place.

It never ceases to amaze me how much information is available on the forum. A long with not having a working mag I also never seem to be
able to keep enough good working coils around. I have a Thomas elevated timer & a K-W elevated unit also. Tim I'm curious about the
electronic coils you mentioned. The K-W unit uses coils with the vibrators removed, I don't want to do that to the coils I have that do work.

Craig I really have no idea as to what's inside or how they work. They're a plain ol KW coul and of course if no one told ya that they were electronic and NOT to be used with the mag you'd never know it...and possibly mistakenly install them with the mag and ruin them! I did mark them accordingly for safety sake! They put out one heckuva strong spark I know that!

Right now I only have the '13 with excellent Heinze coils & mag, and the Fordor is 6V so there they set in a box on the shelf for now. Maybe I'll use em some day.

Mark the K-W uses a brush contact with a set of points the instructions I found awhile back said to not use the vibrators on the coils. I'm thinking that the idea is to get one real hot spark with more precise timing. Maybe some one has run one & has more knowledge of the workings
