On Tuesday there were two devastating tornados in Iowa. The worst devastated the town of Greenfield (population 2000) 50 miles southwest of Des Moines. Four were killed and many injured. It was a F4 tornado.
The other passed just east of Nevada in Story County and destroyed a number of farms. The attached photos show a house that was moved off of its foundation about 20 feet and "rotated" 90 degrees! The owner had just arrived home but was unable to get the house so he got into a small masonry shed. It collapsed on him, but he survived with injuries. The attached photos show the house.
My 1927 coupe was in my son's garage, which is less than 2 miles from that location!

When I heard Greenfield, it rang a bell with me. I used to go to the annual swap meet there to peddle my wares.
There's no question that tornadoes are dangerous and destructive, and it's a good thing they aren't spread out like a hurricane or a big earthquake.

Had 2 tornado warnings about 35 miles west of here yesterday evening. I haven't heard any damage reports, but apparently no towns were hit. The storm that generated the reports dissipated before reaching my immediate vicinity. This has been a bad year for tornadoes and large hail.

That's true, however so far the QUANTITY of tornadoes is at record numbers. They say will continue. Even lil ol' Ohio is now considered in tornado alley, and early this spring WE led the country in the number of them! Things are just getting crazier with this weather. They're still repairing homes 6 miles north of me from a massive hail storm a year ago. Unreal.

Every U.S. state has recorded at least one tornado since 1950.
