I need help installing a mirror on my coupe. How do I remove the hinge pin on the door? I tapped on the pin but It didn't move. I did not hit it very hard. I would appreciate suggestions on how to proceed.

Knock the hinge pins out with a hammer and punch.

Bruce, the hinge pins are knurled about a 1/4" just under the head, so its going to take more than a light tap to get them to move. Even though the tool from Snyder's may be pricey, it does look like a safer way to remove them with out damaging your paint. If this is going to be a one time use tool, you could always reduce the price a bit and resell it to someone else who might need the same tool.

Bruce, I had the same problem when installing those mirrors on my Tudor. To save miss strikes and paint damage I used a centre punch to mark the underside of the pin and drilled a shallow depression . Then I used the same centre punch in that depression and drove the pin out from there. The depression helps to stop the punch migrating.

I ended up ditching the stainless steel mirror heads and their Phillips screws when I located a pair of earlier mirrors from the 1960's.

John, Thanks for recommending the "hinge pin removal tool" listed in Snyder's catalog. It worked for me. I did have to increase the size of the center hole slightly to accommodate the size of the hinge pin head. The kit comes with three small pins that are inserted separately into the tool as the bolts are tightened.

It took a "LOT" of torque on the bolts to get the pin to move.
