Hi, I'm rebuilding my starter and need to solder the bushing with babbitt but can't find any solder salt to seal the housing.

Is there any place that sells a small block of babbitt material? Thank.

The replacement for that bearing today is solid brass. An updated replacement is a sealed ball bearing conversion. Both available @ Langs.
Your idea to repair the old bushing is novel, but not practical.

In my opinion, and I have successfully rebuilt over 500 Model T starting motors, the 6202-1/2 ID double sealed prelubricated ball bearing is far superior than other fix for the brush cap bearing. It is easy to install, requires no lubrication and will likley last another 100 years. The duty cycle oon this bearing is very low.
