LED brake light options

Post by Allen Banks » Sun Jun 09, 2019 10:51 pm

Looking for a very discrete option for brake lights. Ideally, I'd have a strip of LED, 3 inches on each side, adhesive attachment. I found some on Amazon but most had very thin guage wire and didn't hold up over time. Does anyone have something that fits the bill...care to share pics and manufacturer?

Don't have the info at hand at the moment but maybe search here for a guy that had a SUPER LED tail light from a vintage BMW motorcycle. I bought one and installed it in my brass taillight and It is Amazing!! Wasn't cheap but if your interesting I can look for some info?

A few months back I bought a set of LED trailer lights on sale at Harbor Freight and installing in a month or two. Trailer guy told me to make sure it has a very good ground.

Most LEDs require 12 volts.
I put LED trailer lights on my Model A and T by using a 6 to 12 volt transformer.
LEDs are sensitive to the polarity so if you have a positive ground system you need to wire appropriately

Most car batteries are twelve volt, but that doesn't mean you can't get six volt. The same goes for LED bulbs. I bought some HF trailer lights and converted them to six volt LED for my runabout. They ride in a box in the trunk until I need to use them. LED bulbs are directional, so I did have to alter the lights to aim the bulbs rearwards.

A welding rod hook and a rubber bungee keep the light from bouncing off.

I have this type on a 25 roadster pickup and a 14 run about. The one's on the pickup are 9 inches long and mounted about 2 inches back from the end of the bed. Very discrete when not light but really get your attention when you apply the brakes. Found them at a led vendor at a swap meet. They are also wired for signals and tail lights on the pickup.[image][/image]

Jelen, I love those lights and when they're not on they don't look like something that got stuck on and don't belong on a T.

I put some bike lights about the same place on my Torpedo for additional tail lights. During the day you can't see them but they work well at night. Great Job!!
