Cam nut wrench

Most of the time, I’m a cheap A. Sunday, I started taking apart the front end of our 25 couple to find a cam noise, that turned out to be a front cam bearing. While ordering parts, I noticed in a Snyder’s catalog a cam nut wrench. I don’t need one very often, but what the heck! I ordered one with the rest of the stuff. Without a doubt, the best specialized tool I have bought in a long time. I had already removed the cam not and messed it up doing so. Tonite, while assembling the cam gear to the cam shaft, I used the new tool! Hot damn! I’m thinking if I ever have to remove or install the cam nut again, it’ll be a piece of cake, assuming I can find it when needed next time.

I agree - one of the best specialty sockets ever ! I also have the Ford Z wrench but the new socket is the best !

I also use it on the front wheel bearings.

The Ford Z wrench is next to useless on its own. The crank in the handle means the wrench will cam off the nut, damaging it as it does. The more tension you apply, the more likely it will cam off the nut.
I use it with a helper. I have sleeve with a washer welded on one end which goes over the cam snout. When I fit the wrench to the cam nut, a larger washer goes against the wrench and the open end of the sleeve engages on this Then I fit the timer nut to hold it all in place. Now the wrench is captive on the cam nut and will not cam off.

I like the Snap-On 36F socket.

Not my socket, don't have it in front of me to take a photo. The socket is a lot bigger than you think. If anyone has a Snap-On 35F Fan Shaft socket they would like to part with, please let me know.

I made one.
I found an old wheel wrench and cut out the front bearing section.
It is the exact fit for the cam nut.
I just welded it to a piece of tubing and welded that to an old socket.
It is deep enough to work on the front wheel bearing and the cam nut.

Looks good Bob. I made a similar socket that fits the front spindle nut. You can’t use the flat ford wrench with buffalo wheels.

Bob, your socket would work on Hayes wire wheels too. Again, the bearing is buried in the hub.

I use a Model A spark plug wrench. It has the right offset and fits perfect.

Very effective & cheap way to go.
Best to stack some spacers & a nut on the cam to keep the wrench from slipping off & knackering the flats.

I made my own from a swap meet socket ( Harbor Freight ) Cut six flats out with a die grinder & cutoff wheel, turn , heat & press a sleeve on
to strengthen the two flats. Works with a impact if stuck real bad.
