24 coupe I dont know how to identify the carb for you guys but i assume its standard.. when i turn on the fuel petcock and allow fuel to flow into the carburetor, it starts leaking (with the engine not running) and drips once every four seconds. i think the leak is coming out of the air intake area but its hard to tell as there is one of those (heat the air before it goes in from the exhaust thingies) pardon my verbiage. i tried to tighten whatever that bowl is underneath and part of the carb but it still drips . i assume it s that bowl that is not seated properly or the gasket is compromised. If that's not it when what should i look for once i get inside the carb? Some needle stuck open? just asking you guys first because you love to help.

Its the needle & seat leaking from bad or gummed up contact or the float isnt.
You will need to know which carb to order the correct parts. There is normally a tag a top the bowl casting.
If not post a picture, someone will identify it for you.

Inspect the float needle under a high power magnifier. You may find a defect where it mates to the seat.

Post a photo - we can probably tell you what it is from that.

your float is probably stuck open. years of build up.

Thanks for all the help guys. I think i have it figured out and yes its an NH and one more thing i need to address is the rust in the bowl and the part that goes in the bowl. I see there are lots of antirust products what do you guys recommend for taking off the rust.

Soak the bowl in white vinegar for a day. Clean the residue off with soapy water. Works well for gas tanks also.

Some thoughts.....
Clean your sediment bulb. Gently clean the Viton needle tip, and the seat with a q tip. Check to make sure the needle moves freely up and down from closed to open. I polished the needle sides with a dremel to ensure minimal friction.
Check float height and make sure your float is not cracked and filling with gas (sunk float).

You can soak it overnight in citric acid then let it dry and lightly wire brush it and it will come clean.

Apple cider vinegar I feel is better than just vinegar. Works really well on rust. Soak for a day and wire brush it off, then a very light coat of oil to prevent flash rust. I've been using it for years. Also try electrolysis. There are lots of videos online on how to do that. I've also used it for a long time on larger parts. Removes all rust down to bare metal. You just have to wire brush off the black residue of former rust, dry it and prime it to prevent flash rust.
