Hood Corners Pads - what are they?

4054 and 4054B. I see them in the catalog but have never seen them on a car. Are they rarely used?

Little leather triangular "pockets" meant to be riveted to the inside lower corners of the hood, presumably keep the hood from scratching up the cowl. Unnecessary accessory ?

The late Improved Car used these pads, factory. You can tell if your late T was installed at the factory as you will find tiny hole at the edge of the hood.

Here is original remains of a factory pad. Think these were late 1926 addition, when the Improved Car got the change to Vaproizer carb, and later with the nickel head bolts....all this 'fancy' stuff that Edsel saw done, as he was practicing for the designs of the NEW Ford to come.

Sometimes making your own from scraps of black leather with a simple single stitch is a better alternative. Soak in water for a couple of hours, using a c-clamp with small pieces of wood and wax paper, clamp in place and let sit for a day. Remove and let dry, then reinstall with a little black weatherstripping adhesive. Looks Good!

They would come in handy to prevent this.

After a Model T got older and was still a good serviceable car items like engine pans, hood pad corners, door straps and a few other items that were considered unnecessary items were discarded. Or at least the remains of T’s that were still fairly complete that I’ve seen over the years. Don’t see many around in this area any more. Maybe frame remains but that’s about it.

They are great to have as they keep a klutzy guy, like myself, from scratching the cowl.

Doug. The directions make no sense to me either. Soak in water with c clamp, bits of wood, and wax paper. Apply with a little bit of adhesive. I dont see how that would make them look as good as they do. Hank did a great job.

Soak in water for about 4 hours clamp them while they're still wet, let them dry in clamped position, remove and use weathestrip adhesive to apply them to the hood
