Bolt on Right Side of Block

Can someone tell me what this bolt holds down? It is under the generator mounting casting. It looked like it had been leaking oil around the bolt head before I cleaned the area. There is no washer under it. I'm replacing some old leaky gaskets and thought if I could add a crush washer or some rtv behind it to seal it, that's one less leak point. I dont want to loosen it without knowing in case it is holding something inside of the crank case.

Can bearing retainer. If it’s leaking just use a little RTV and reinstall.

If I run it out a quarter inch to clean it and dope it up would it be safe to do?
Yes. In fact, you can remove it completely. Just don't turn the engine while it's out. By the way, your timing gear is completely worn out.

Thanks I thought it looked bad. The generator gear pin was really buggered and the gear was loose. Could have caused the wear.

The front cam bearing usually wears faster than the middle bearing or the rear bushing. If in doubt just replace with new babbited bearing shell.
