There are a couple family dynasties -- the Carnegies include Tom and Rick + sister Nan Robison, nephew Mike Robison and his wife Jillian.

Then there is the Cerovski dynasty. Tony is the patiarch, wife Jan has been driving that purple car for years, son Morgan has been driving since he was old enough to see over the steering wheel -- he must be last 20's or early 30's - and daughter is Erica (she must be about 25 or 26 now) is driving her own car these days. Both of the kids moved back to Montana/Wyoming after some college and jobs in other places.

Tony and Janet live just down the street from me but I only see them every year or two a day or two before the race when the California boys show up to see how their cars are going to run at this altitude. Last Thursday night was it.

Tony served a little Sasparilla in some little paper cups that was so potent it melted the glue or wax or whatever was holding the cups together. You should have seen Sergio trying to lick the bottom of the cup to keep it from running on the floor. It was pretty good stuff. Tony said it was special for the T racers. I licked mine off my fingers and even with a little wax/glue taste it was pretty spectacular.

Turned out a super fun day today.. My car the #14 Team Green Red Roadster ran fine and should have logged in a good score. A hard rain to run away from and a bit construction where we were timed in and out. Only a few problems but many are now ready for another run tomorrow past Scott Congers place on the way to Cody.

Code: Select all

Thee will be some long and pretty steep hills on that route with a turn near the bottom.

Thanks for posting all the Super pictures Cow. If you see the Red Green Team Roadster tomorrow let me know and Say HI!0

Ya Stan, Sorry I missed the fun with you guys this time. Would be nice to see you down here. You really didn't credit Garrett Green and his Green Team enough. Garrett has won the race more than once and sponsors other guys like me to drive his other cars. More than once he has had 3 cars on the race course. Tom also has done the same.

This year with a radar gun several guys were penalized for going over the posted speed limit. I can tell you it's pretty hard to keep a T exactly at 25 or whatever but the idea is to make sure drivers observe the posted limits going thru towns. I was clocked at 24 in a 25.

Another fun run down to Cody and back tomorrow.

I have to give a BIG THANKS to Kirk Peterson for coming from Sante Fe NM and offering to help with the computer posting. It's a big job and he's doing Great!!!

You can run any body style you want. Just about everyone from the last 59 years have been running roadsters due to the lighter weight.

Obviously it has been determined that black paint and hickory spokes causes way too much drag and replaced by 21” wires and Easter Egg colors. I’m aware that some cars are competing in a timed event and others are there just for a beautiful tour. Is it fair to assume the topless roadster and the RPU with a ‘skeleton’ bed is in the latter group? Many thanks for the pictures and uncle Stan’s racer insight...
I don’t know why I turned out this way. My parents were decent people 🤪

George

there may be some tour/recreational drivers, I don't know, but I watched everyone of them leave in a pecking order at timed intervals, so at least they'll have a record of their run.

Seem to be mostly 26/27 roadsters. Is that because of the transmission?

Some quick answers... There was a couple of tour cars but everybody else were serious racers for time. The Red Green Team '26 Roadster that I drove with no top was at quite a disadvantage because of wind and weight but I came in #12 with an average of 49.06 MPH. The race has been won by Garrett Green's '27 Touring. The early Roadsters are very popular because of weight and wind resistance. Cars with a top and full side curtains are most popular.

Gene,
I am sure that pink paint would improve the speed of my car! The body of my car is rusty so paint would likely improve the aerodynamics:)

I agree a small change could close the gap of a few seconds or minutes. Things like like who had passengers would make a big change. It would be nice to know other stuff like cam grind used, etc...

For those who couldn't find it. This is posted on Facebook:

What I love about that MT500 is that it is a great proving ground for making best practices on a stock Model T.

I can imagine how great it was. Just for comparison here are photos I took of the 1963 run. The spot was the Narrows at Hebgen Lake.

When did I do that?

Matt, Here is some of the problems different people had that I heard about or helped fix.

One car had a rusty gas tank that kept plugging the fuel flow.
Coil adjustment issues caused another car slow time and also some Kevlar lint on the mag post.
Original Ford type valve keeper pins and washer failure seemed to plague the Intake valves for a huge time loss.
A fast car had trouble with the magneto and withdrew from racing while running with some bad noise inside.
Band adjustment was required by one car after completing a race leg.
The drain plug on one of the carbs came loose.
I didn't hear of anyone having a flat tire or failure though some had a couple of worn tires.

I'm sure there were other problems that I was not aware of and this does not include regular "pit stop" servicing like timer and coil contact cleaning and lube.

The race certainly proves the durability of the stock Model T for a long distance of full throttle running!

My boy Stormo !! A former winner went on Weight Watchers just to improve his score - and came in 23rd 😞....He’s a great Model T enthusiast tho’
I don’t know why I turned out this way. My parents were decent people 🤪

Burger and Cowtown, Here's a link to a really great Montana 500 site with all the info anyone could ever want to know and lots of pictures. This site was set up by Garrett Green's Nephew Dwight and he does a remarkable job keeping it updated.

Go to: https://themontana500.wordpress.com/ and you can open a page and navigate there.

Cow, Sorry I missed seeing you on the race. Maybe you didn't wanna get wet. I was driving the Red '26 Team Green Roadster with no top and finished #12 with just over 49 mph average. This was about the 4th race for this car and it was getting a little tired but I had no breakdowns and it ran flawlessly reaching a top speed of 68 mph on a nice downhill.

Thanks to Garrett and Team Green along with a sponsorship from Mothers Waxes, Polishes and Cleaners for allowing me to drive again for the third time.

Please check out the products made by Mothers when your shopping the local auto parts stores or WalMart. They have always Very Generously supported all of our Model T Events with free samples and buckets of very cool products!
