Drove the Model T in the snow today.

I drive my cars regularly. Like every day regularly. Up until the time I put a Russ Potter carburetor on the car and Coil Dr. coils they were hard to start.
Not anymore. My starter-less ‘13 starts on the third pull, regardless of temperature.
We had a late first snow this year. This morning was the first. I had to drive my daughter to the Santa Claus parade which was pretty close, a few miles, so I took the 13 touring car. It’s got relatively new Firestone tires on it, so I was surprised when taking off from a stop the wheel spun a little. What was even more surprising was braking. I wasn’t going faster that 15 mph and didn’t brake hard but it started to come around on me, almost at 45 degrees.
I got home safely, but don’t think I’ll venture out again very soon on snow covered roads. Since I got home they salted so I’m grounded until spring…

Snow chains might be an option.

I have snow chains for a different antique, but they do not protect the car from salt :(

I didn’t drive in salt.

Chains? That would have made it worse. The snow was only an inch deep.

Sorry no pictures.

Scenes from the Polar Bear Tour that was held in conjunction with the MTFCI Annual Meeting in southwest Ohio this past January. The tour started at Ron’s Machine shop in Shandon, OH and covered 65 miles, about the first 1/3 of which the snow was still falling. That’s Bonnie, my ‘24 touring on the sidewalk in front of the Packard Museum in downtown Dayton, and in the hotel parking lot in Miamisburg.

Putting four to six 50 pound sand bags in the rear floorboard would greatly improve traction. It's best to keep the wheels turning when braking. Locking a wheel can pack the tire tread with compacted snow and prevent the tire from contacting the road, allowing you to literally slide along on snowshoes. This is very likely to happen on a light cover of wet snow over wet pavement. Wheel spinning rarely accomplishes anything beyond getting the tires nice and wet, which makes them even slicker.

I haven't driven a T in snow very often, but here's one occasion when I did.
