Carter and the Model T

Jimmy Carter was born in 1924. He entered a world full of Model T Fords. In 1976 he beat a man named Ford to become the president off the Unted State. He was an honest man and a man of faith. He served his country as an navel officer. He served humanity for all his life. He was a man of peace. He will be missed, but well remembered.

Let's not get political. I don't think that was the intent of this posting. This is about Carter, not any of the others.
Yes, he was a good man. If history decides he wasn't the best president, then so be it. A person could be accused of worse things. He truly loved his country, his fellow human beings, his wife, and his Creator. I have nothing but high respect for him.

A good man, a man of peace
Who loved his country very well,
Honest, industrious, full of faith,
There is much I can tell.
Became our country’s president,
For only then for four years,
He meant well for those times,
He did what came with out fears.
Went on to serve humanity,
Brought peace to another nation,
Served humanity were needed,
Without any hesitation.
So rest in peace,’My good man,
Your acomishments are cast,
Memories of you will linger on,
Those deeds are of the past.

He eradicated the Guinea worm. It was common in Africa, a riverborne parasite. He did it through education of the people on how to control it. It is a worm that can enter the body when people bathe or clean laundry along riversides. The worm would grow inside of the body, getting as long as 3'. After awhile it wanted to leave the body and would peirce through the skin with incredible pain. The first reaction of the people was to go to the river and soak to relieve the pain but that would reintroduce the worm to the water where it would multiply. Carter taught people to soak the foot in a container until the worm exited and then to kill it before it could escape.
I worked in a gas station when I was 16, that summer the odd-even plate gas rationing took effect. Lines were a mile long of angry tourists that had to fill up to drive home.

Carter was a lot more than just a one term president. Many of the problems that bedeviled the nation during his tenure did NOT originate during his term or proceed from any of his policy initiatives. I suspect that he would have done better in a second term, especially in foreign relations, by reason of having learned that some "world leaders", not to mention some members of congress, do not act in good faith and will not hesitate to take advantage of anyone who does.

Well, I hope he’s venerated in Guinea. A marble bust would be nice. BTW, there are no Model Ts in Guinea but New Guinea (another country) published a stamp honoring Ford.

Since this thread has been started, I can say I could not stand Carter when he was President. He may have been a “good” man but good does not necessarily translate into a good and effective Presidency. He was weak and a disaster in every way that was harmful to this country. Until Biden, Carter was the worst president in history. Carter was blessed with a very long life in which he had time to make amends, but it does not soften my stance toward him for the damage he did while President. This said, now this thread can be deleted.

Ha ha! That is a funny coincidence!
The stamp cost 21 toea (21t). There are 100 toea to 1 Kina and 1Kina is worth about US 25 cents.

All comments were possible because we live in a country where can speak without being put in jail over their opinions. Thank you to all who commeneted and to those you chose to honor a great person. If you check, it turns out Carter did many positive things when president, many which shaped the country in a good way. Even the president elect said positive things about Carter.

Regardless of what you think of any of the presidents-past, present, or future-they deserve some modicum of respect for taking that hellish job. They are the Commander-in-Chief, as well.
To make this vaguely Model T related, it occurred to me that I restored my 26 Coupe when Carter was president.
