Is this a 5-z-1170? I can’t find a part number on it, and the overall shape is a little different than in the image. That said, I’ve seen several variants of the 5-z-287, too. It is script and fits a T hub (not a 1171 TT puller). The center striker bolt matches the Ford image. If someone has one, is it marked with a part number and where? Thanks.

Mark, is it Ford script, and does it have a Z number on it?

Same script as one shown above. On the other side is the company's logo that made it (can't read it). No Z number that I could find.

Thanks, Mark. There seems to be comparatively a lot of 1172 pullers, but I have not come across any photos of 1170 pullers to compare this to. It was probably not as popular of tool since there were many other wood wheel hub pullers to choose from.

The style of wood wheel puller shown came out late in the game so there are fewer examples. I am glad I got mine; it was made so much better than some of the lighter versions.
Like the Z wire wheel lug wrench, the Ford wire wheel hub pullers are fewer in between, not as many out there which also reflects in price. There were only so many shops working on the T's and with the wire wheels hubs, there were other way to pull the hubs off that could also be used on other brands of cars so could be that that puller was just not sold in any quantity to the general public.

Nikolaus, your puller is likely an aftermarket item. I have never seen a Ford one which does not have an octagonal end which allows the hubcap wrench to be used to wind it onto the hub. Your six sided one will require its own wrench to use it.
I believe early Chevs and some Essex models had the same fine thread on the hub as a T model, so perhaps it is made for one of those.

I have one like yours. It has the ford script and a makers mark but no part number. I haven’t figured out the makers mark. It came out of the attic of my grandfather’s garage that opened in the1910s.

Allan, that’s a good observation about the hex vs octagon. They are Ford script, so not another make of car, but it’s possible that the script was licensed out.

KBurket, great photos. I don’t think mine has that foundry mark, but I will look again.

Is this the type of wheel puller for the TT? It does have the ford script. On the left side of the slit are 2 illegible markings, to the right side is 25. No other markings found.

Show a picture of the threads. looks like a T puller, not TT.

The TT puller is identical to the car puller - just alot bigger ! I'll get a photo for a side by side comparison tomorrow.

Roger, yours is just like mine. Note the octagonal end which allows it to be screwed onto the hub with the help of the toolkit hubcap wrench.

Roger, that is probably the earlier 3-z-605 or 5-z-287, both for the T hub. Sometimes the numbers is on the inside cavity. In 1926 Ford came out with the heavier 5-z-1170 with center strike bolt.

After a bit of light sanding, it is a little clearer, the Z can be seen. At the bottom of the slit I can see the bottom portion of the 6, to the right what I thought was a 2 is actually a zero and the 5 after that. In front of the Z there was something stamped; to faint to make but the rest of charters tell the story, 3z605.

Also, the letter B is seen on the inside.
