I have a set of original RM brakes that I wanted to put on my 26 ruxtell rearend. I did not realize that the improved axle doesn't have the bolt at the back of the drum like the earlier cars. I am thinking of fabricating a steel plate to attach to the spring perch bolt and the radius rod bolt. Trying to work with what I have, 26 rear ruxtell and wire Wheels. Thoughts?

You will find that the ‘26-‘27 brake drum is 1” smaller diameter than the RM drum for the ‘09-‘25 rear end. You could swap drums, but the flat RM drum would interfere with the wire wheels

Thanks, that's what I needed to know. Now I guess I need to post a classified to trade these for the ones I need.

I would test fit the brake bands to your drums, the originals may not have used an extra drum to make the later Rockies work with a small drum. If the bands go most of the way around but not all of the way I would think that you could adapt them to fit.

That bracket you have was made by the successor to Rocky Mountain Machine Products, and is for the small drums, not a 26-7. The new company was called Tractor Train.

You don’t say if you have a complete set of original style small drum Rockies, including the over size brake drums. If your set is complete with over size brake bands and drums your two simplest choices are to trade your brakes for the later 1926-27 style AC brakes, or you could change your Ruckstell over to a 1925 small drum axle and use your Rockies. If you are using 1926-27 wire wheels I would stay with the 1926-27 Ruckstell. I would not try to cobble up something to make your Rockies work with your 1926 large drum Ruckstell.
