I’m looking to make a seat cushion for my delivery car. Originally the cushion was just a piece of 2” foam. I’m wanting to incorporate some springs. I’ve read that the seat frame for 11/12 era was a wood frame with the springs does anyone have pictures of what the seat frame looks like/construction without the upholstery on it. If you have dimensions of thickness of the wood that would be helpful as well.

Have a late 1911 Touring. Looking for same info as tbird. Drawings, Ford engineering drawings, or pictures would be most helpful. If I know what they look like I can make them fit my new springs. Do front and rear springs have wood framing?

Late '11 do not use the wood frame.
They are like a pillow case and the bottom has 'vinyl' covered cardboard.

Keith, so it looks like that seat has a wire metal frame?

This is the underside of the seat cushions from the late 11 touring car that I restored, showing the wire seat bases. One of the pictures that Keith posted is one of these cushions before the cardboard like bottom was removed.

You are correct. The spring has a metal frame, but does not have the crimp channel for attaching the cushion upholstery (with the cord) like on later years.

Delivery cars may have a different spring and cushion all together. I would suggest you reach out to John Regan.

I believer "SNYDERS" can actually still make seat spring sets to order, even for specials. I understand that is what they started doing when they went into business, and I think I last asked them a couple years ago if they could still do that, and they said "YES! Send us your old seat spring set, or what is left of it, and we can make you a new seat spring complete!" It might be easier, faster, and cheaper for them to make you one, if you can find the data or drawings for how they would be constructed.

Snyders only wants a drawing. Just annotate that it is to be used exactly if you have the original seat spring or do what they ask if you have no pattern. 1” inside the outline of the seat frame.

I have done both. One for an Amish seat i bought and one for my 1912 Torpedo Roadster i had the old rusty seat spring for a pattern.

They do a great job!
