This rear view mirror was in a 27 roadster I recently bought. The clock, surprisingly works and keeps time. The mirror glass though is in need of re-silvering. Has anyone ever had one of these apart? I’m thinking it is bonded to the glass somehow but don’t want to break it, since it it has beveled edges. The steel bracket is easy enough to bend the tabs a bit, but how the clock is attached is what I’m trying to figure out.

Well, I’ve made some progress. The case separated with a bit of gentle persuasion, and then the clock(watch) was able to be removed, it appears that there is a stainless steel bezel that would have held the watch crystal was used with out the crystal. It was replaced with the beveled glass that makes the mirror. Now I need to remove the case from the glass. I am open to suggestions. It looks as though the glass has a channel cut about 1/2 way thru the thickness of the glass and the case is somehow bonded to it.

An overnight soak in lacquer thinner did the trick
Now it is off to the glass shop to have the mirror redone.

Well,
since I started this, I figured I would show the progress. A short trip to the bead blasting cabinet and a quick shot of etching primer left me to find the appropriate color.
I was searching thru color chips trying to determine the color from what remained on the case. I narrowed it down to 3-4 and then realized they were all fairly close to the color of a 2015 Toyota Camry I was painting yesterday. It isn’t exact, but close enough for me. Since it can’t be compared to anything else, I’m calling it good!
Next up will be the windshield bracket and then I’ll wait for the mirror to come back from being reworked.
