Rebuilding a Centerdoor sedan.

Using drawings that I created, and the one last surviving piece of original body sill, I am attempting trial fitment on the frame.

The frame is level and my remade sills sit at 2 3/4 inches from the outside of the frame as they should.

Whoever made these sills didn’t do them right. I’ve already had to fix the pillar coupe notch as it was too large.

I am going to attempt to fix the fixed crossmember board mortises. An owner previous to the person that gave me the car cut them too small thereby making the crossmembers too narrow. They made the mortises with a Forstner bit.

The body mounting bracket holes are also not in the correct positions. I will correct those as well.

Now, I know what you’re thinking: why not just make new sills from my drawings? Well, I do have the wood to make them, however, the wood is 1 3/8ths inches thick which allows only a 1/16th on each side for planing. And…the wood isn’t entirely flat.

I will probably be driven crazy by this when all said and done. Just wait until you see the rear lower body panel.
