I picked up a '26/'27 rearend over the weekend and it had wooden wheels.
My question is what are the brackets for?

Part of mounting for accessory brakes.

Maybe Rocky Mountain?

There were many types made by different companies. Maybe someone can match that bracket with the maker or brand.

Too crude for Rocky Mtn. - perhaps a photo of the "business" side ?

Notice that it is a 1926-27 big drum rear axle. Assuming that the brake bands are still in place, I would say this bracket was made by a
local blacksmith in order to operate the brakes off the foot brake via a looped cable like the original AC brakes. If the brake bands are in place it would mean that the Ford brake cam and lever was turned upside down for some reason, perhaps for leverage or clearance. The bracket construction does not look to be comericaly produced.

The location of the bracket is where the rear radius rod would be attacked. It is unlikely that that the radius rods would be eliminated. There is a triangular piece of metal attached to the bracket, perhaps for a radius rod attached to the frame. Would help to see more of the axle attached to the frame or what ever & a view from the wheel side.

The radius rods are not eliminated, they are attached to the bracket. Similar to this set up. Need to see other side of bracket to see how it works or if it’s for something other than brakes. It may be a farmer designed set up.

I have a pair of brackets similar to that that I believe used Chevrolet brake shoes.

Appears to be part of a Rocky Mountain brake assembly.
