Who rebuilds the Model T Magneto Field Coils? I have 3 early field coils that have been checked cleaned and coated that I plan to sell in the near future.I need to have a double stack 1915 coil rebuilt, but can't remember who does the rebuilding. Thanks MTFCA

Wally Szumowsky sold Total Recoil and retired, and the new owner has since died. Has anybody else taken it over? If not, you may need to turn to Birdhaven, Bob's, Chaffin's, Lang's, etc. (Google Total Recoil and you get video games.) :)

If anyone knows how to contact Wally S I'm sure he would know. If you have a lot of time you can do it yourself. I did.

If the 3 have only been cleaned and checked, at this point, unless they have been completely rebuilt they are still cores. Any coating you put on isn't going to stick for very long to old oily surfaces and the old probably rotted wrappings. If the the insulator between the winding's is still good, you might get by with un-soldering the connections between the coils, re-wrapping the coils, sand blasting the frame, reassembling, coat and bake.

First, what Mark said.

Next, I do rewind field coils; have done many thousands using all new copper, insulators, contact blocks, etc. Everything is new but the frame itself. Surface grinding available. All units carry a lifetime warranty.

Do yourself a favor get the pole faces and the ring to block surface ground so that they are flat and parallel. It will make getting the proper air gap easy.
