New mystery for me, seeking input

'26 Hack, drove into barn, placed on jacks, placed the parking brake lever all the way forward for the winter, removed battery, sent coils out for rebuilding, doing cosmetic work, parking brakes free, in neutral, manually pushing backwards is easy, manually pushing FORWARD, NOT BUDGING nor MOVING, removed spark plugs, still not manually moving forward. Finally, I pulled with my tractor, the tractor slightly struggled to pull it into the barn. What might the culprit be? Thank you for any and all comments.

Do you have auxiliary brakes? They are self energizing, if adjusted on the tight side they will drag a little going forward and release in reverse. That has been my experience.

John. Just standard brakes. Thank you for your reply. Jay.

You are welcome Jay. Your symptoms are identical to the ones I had. Resolved with some fine tuning of the brakes. I'm sure others will have some good insight.

To eliminate the brakes, disconnect the brake rods. Jack up the rear and try to turn the wheels manually. Should give you an idea which way to go from there.

What ever else you do, dont be pulling/forcing the motor with a tractor without a neutral or the rear wheels off the ground.
You will only damage, geometrically, further.
If the clutch was hung up, moving in reverse would have freed up the pack to roll forward also.
I would be using a modified crank ratchet to hand crank the motor in a forward & reverse direction feeling for hang ups first to get a better feel on where the problem is.

Actually I had the same situation. Locked up going forward but rolled backwards ok. Somehow the most forward clutch got jammed between the brake drum and disc drum. Cant explain why it locked up only attempting to go forward. Perhaps the clutch was wedged in on an angle and the tooth edge caught only in one direction. Hope thats not your issue. Taking thr power plant out of the car and opening up the trsnsmission would be my last resort.
