Fixing to scrap out some armatures. Before I bust up the commutators, is anyone interested in them?
When finished with the starters, going to work on generators.
So there will be some of them too.

Besides having a messed up keyway, what really goes wrong with a starter armature? Shafts can be replaced and commutators can be recut.

Well Dan, years back I scraped about 30 starters and 20 generators as no one would give me $40.00 each per core but will charge you $75.00. I just chucked the armatures into scrap steel and burned out the copper fields. Copper was at $3.79 per pound and steel at $.10 per pound.

I thought since I was scraping these out, someone that repairs starters might need the commutators. I have seen them be shorted to ground. These will be cheaper than making a new one. They will be checked for being grounded. Don’t wait too long, they will become #1 copper soon. Dan

Take them to the scrapyard fully assembled. They generally give you a good rate for “motors”.

Yes. Leave them attached to the engine as well.

Don’t worry Jerry, some of those are going too. But #1 copper pay’s better.
