Is this a Good Idea? Oil Screen Question

I recently pulled of the inspection plate on the transmission cover and found this magnet in the accessory oil screen. I thought those old timers on the forum might chime in on whether this is a good idea? It seems to me that it is as some unwanted crud was attached to the magnet, but maybe there is some unforeseen negative consequences to this? Your thoughts, Thanks.

I advise securing it with some stainless wire.

Great idea and we've used it many years. It's not going anywhere and you can easily remove it to clean.

Mounting it on the outside unless you wish to become a member of the Hank Lee Magnet Eater Club. They can migrate, crumble to pieces, and lose strength through heat cycles. Others have had issues, my engine/transmission with 1000 miles on it, totally destroyed. $6,500.0 flushed down the toilet.

It's one of the best improvement for a Model T. I have them in all my cars. There are so many particles on the magnet each time I take the cover off. I hate to think of them staying with the oil.

Vibration, heat cycles, make a rare earth magnet eventually self destruct. Mounting a magnet on the outside works just as good without spending a war chest in repairs. I have said my peace, you have been warned! How many of you have replaced your electric motors in your power windows in your cars? Rare earth magnets cracking and breaking up!
All the Best,
Hank

Anyone else have an experience like Hank? I safety wire my magnet in place...don't know if that helps or not.

Never heard of one crumbling while just sitting in the tray, but the idea of one migrating into the engine is scary enough to warrant using a little safety wire to be on the safe side.

The one I have in my screen is incredibly strong .... actually difficult to remove. Don’t think it’s going anywhere.

I was wondering that too. Maybe on the door, so you can remove and clean it?
