Retired like I am I enjoy spending time working on my T's as well as a Model A and more recently a 1940 Cadillac LaSalle.

My brake pedal was a little low on my stock 1915 Model T so since I have a wooden band on there I thought that was a little odd. True enough they have been in there for 6 or 7 years but I broke them in softly and they have given me years of trouble free operation.

Imagine my surprise when I discovered the washer in there "cattywampuss".

And now I know why! Anyone every seen this before? (I'd be surprised if I were the first one to see this)

Never have seen that in 59 years! Replace it with another, and you'll be set.

Every time you depress the brake pedal, you put a bit of strain on that washer. Finally it broke. You are very fortunate it didn't fall into the transmission. If it had, you might have had a big disaster. Just replace the washer and make your normal adjustment.

It’s a recently made modern repro washer and was probably a bad stamping that was just about broke through from the day it was made. I can see it from a mile away. The repros seem to be made by more than one vendor. Look at them close before you install a repro.

I have been to a lot of swap meets over the years and farm auctions and have never seen a worn out, bent or broken bandwasher In the junk box’s I have looked at. Seen a few rusty ones used as washers on old farm equipment but never a broken one. That one is probably a reproduction. Learn something new everyday I guess.
