Re: Touring side curtain install sheet 17-22 needed
You need to study this topic very carefully! If you have a replacement top, chances are none of the original fasteners are on it, and maybe some of the fasteners are not on the body either. The archives should have the prints for those curtains, if you choose to do it correctly.

Re: Touring side curtain install sheet 17-22 needed
Larry, I have a new top and it does not have any fasteners in it, nor does the car have any fasteners.
If I purchase side curtains, I am trying to determine how much work I have ahead of me. The side
curtains come with fasteners, but you have to install them yourself - looks easy enough. More concerned
with the top and the car.

Re: Touring side curtain install sheet 17-22 needed
When I bought my side curtains from Classtique, my recollection is that the side curtains came with the curtain side of the fasteners, but I had to buy the top and body side of the fasteners separately (I bought mine from Langs). Be sure to buy the correct number of single height and double height fasteners.
Also be aware that the fasteners currently available from the vendors are functional, but not a perfect match to what came on the cars when they were new. Larry Smith has talked about that before.

Re: Touring side curtain install sheet 17-22 needed
There is likely a good reason why the makers do not supply body and top fittings for their side curtains. No two car tops sit exactly like any other. By installing the curtain fasteners only, the buyer can fit the other fittings to suit those curtains and his particular car. Their positions are largely dictated by the curtains.
Hope this helps.

Re: Touring side curtain install sheet 17-22 needed
Again, I was hoping someone out there saved his instructions for installing side curtains on a touring.
Maybe I can ask and they will send me just the instructions. Then I can plan my next step. Thank you
for all your help so far.

Re: Touring side curtain install sheet 17-22 needed
Your disappointment with our replies stems from the reasonable (but mistaken) assumption that side curtains come with instructions, they don't (at least the custom ones that I ordered from Classtique didn't).
I looked at pictures and diagrams from the forum (especially those from Larry Smith) to give me a good idea of where the fasteners were placed on the top bows and body. Once those are installed, use Larry Smith's method of making paper or light cardboard patterns that match the shape of the side curtains to locate the curtain side of the fasteners. Iterate as necessary until the paper patterns fit perfectly, then use the patterns to locate the fasteners onto your real curtains.
To find the legacy forum pictures, do a Google search on "side curtains MTFCA", lots of old threads will show up.

Re: Touring side curtain install sheet 17-22 needed
When I made the top for my '13 roadster, I made a flap that is sewn to the inside of the top. It looked very good to me until I realized I failed to install two of the required common sense fasteners to it. I was sure mad, so I had to make another. So much for learning stuff. I am not an upholstery guy at all, but I enjoy doing it anyway. For my cars, I'm always buying good used upholstery fasteners, because even though the stuff they make today works, it does not look the same as Mark mentioned.

Re: Touring side curtain install sheet 17-22 needed
Thank you for the info Mark. Today we put up my top to protect us from sun and/or rain. I noticed the top has 3 fasteners in it and the back panel has 2. Do not know how they knew where to put the top fasteners. They are pretty much equally spaced. Yet in the diagram above, there are more than 3. Maybe that is why side curtains come without fasteners installed - so you can match them up yourself.

Re: Touring side curtain install sheet 17-22 needed
I submitted a photo a few weeks back of a side curtain I have. It turned out to be the one you have. I never got around to posting the rest of the pictures, nor have I even photographed them yet. They have all the correct old style fasteners on them too. I'm sure glad I didn't cut off all the old fasteners, and throw the side curtains away!

Re: Touring side curtain install sheet 17-22 needed
Just came back from a dealership that has an old 1917 Ford in the showroom. I noticed the side curtains on the floor and was allowed to take them out of the car. The side curtains have no fasteners of any kind on them. They must have been purchased and thrown in the back, never to be used. I also searched the entire car. The top has 5 fasteners and the windshield has 2. There are none on the bows. In the above picture it appears that there are about 18 grommets in the curtains. Is 18 the number that you have on your curtains?
