I have looked in the catalogs and websites but have not found the stainless steel setup that someone used to sell. Can someone tell me who sells them or if they are available?

Brian, I haven't seen those for sale for a long time. I purchased mine maybe 20 years ago, still in the car, looking New as when I put it on. Stainless steel was the best pic at the time.

I did my own stainless exhaust. If you cannot weld, there is a place in Lafayette, IN that I drove right by this year that does custom exhaust. I have not used their services. Whatever they charge is what it costs for stainless. I would provide them with a new pack nut ahead of time.

Yes, the stainless muffler with short tailpipe, and the stainless exhaust pipe have been out of production for many years, probably over a decade at the least, The muffler was made by a fellow Texan, Frank Fenton, as I recall, and the exhaust pipe was made by Vern Campbell. I was foresighted enough to buy one of each while they were still available. They, along with a stainless 1 1/2" exhaust pipe clamp, give me a 100% stainless exhaust system. I still have the parts in storage and they are NOT for sale.

If you have one of the current production 'take-apart' mufflers, you can easily change all the tubes from cold rolled steel to stainless steel. the outer shell will be 5" stainless exhaust tubing (12" long) and I bought a pre cut length on EBAY. The innermost tube is 1 1/2" and the middle tube is something over 3". You would use the regular steel ends from the current production muffler, OR if authenticity is not a concern, I'm sure a short 12" stainless muffler with a 1 1/2" inlet can be bought.

The stainless exhaust has been gone for some time, but I bought a stainless exhaust pipe pre-bent from Langs only 2 years ago. My guess for the pipe any independent muffler shop should be able to make you something.

The muffler shown in Frank's photo is made incorrectly, stainless or otherwise. Rolling the outer shell was not done as it should be. Because the shell needs to go INSIDE the lip on the muffler ends, the joint ridge should be folded with the overlapping edges on the INSIDE of the shell. Then there is no need to beat a relief in the muffler ends to accommodate it.

That type of rolled joint, on the outside of the shell, should be reserved for the cast iron muffler ends, where the shell goes over a land on the shell, rather than into it. Making them correctly is not difficult. It just requires attention to detail. My sheetmetal worker who rolls the shells for the mufflers I assemble calls them inside and outside seams.

While any muffler will/may work on a T, there is something about the sound of an original style exhaust system that is unique to a T. It's a bit like needing to hear the buzz of the coils. The sounds are unique to a T. Many of the aftermarket mufflers make the T sound a bit strangled to my failing hearing.

I thought it was the late Reverend Campbell that was making the stainless Tail Pipes.

Pretty sure that Brian Dowel purchased all of the remaining pipes from Doris Ann. Brian & I had discussed the possibility of me reproducing new Pipes and possibly Mufflers since I have a friend who owns a large performance exhaust manufacturing company in our town. The main issue for the delay was that I wanted to go to Benson Research Library to pull the prints so it/they could be duplicated accurately. If it ever re-opens, then I may explore this further.

Brent, Apparently, there are stainless steel exhaust pipes being made if Lang's offers them. Who makes them and is their supplier, I don't know. I do know that Vern Campbell's pipes were claimed by many, to be the best fitting, most authentic pipes made in recent times. I purchased my stainless pipe from Doris Campbell, after Vern died. At that time, I offered to buy all his remaining stock from her, but she was not interested. She said that she was going to sell them at the Michigan T Jamboree. I don't know if she did, and if so, for how many years, nor do I know if she ever changed her mind and just sold all remaining stock to another party. I'm just glad that I got one, at least.
