Apologies if this is a repost, but I saw this for first time via a link posted by THF.

Model T footage is first but brief. At the 2:00 minute mark blocks are being stamped with engine #, and just after that differential assemblies are being completed by a guy with a big hammer. I'm curious if any of you know what is being hammered in that step? best, jb

As the rear ends are being rolled down the line, with the housings just placed, think that hammer job is to align the two halves.

By whacking the pinion bearing openings, flattens them together, easy to then pass the bolts through their respective holes, all lined up ;)
