How do I install the split keepers when the engine is in the car and the intake and exhaust manifolds are mounted on the engine?
I use a compressor tool for the spring - see photo.

Sounds like difficulty level 5
“Glue” the keeper halves in place with a dab of heavy grease.

There are tools made to do that.

You do need a valve lifter which lifts in parallel. Otherwise the keeper and spring will be cocked and the two collets cannot be fitted. With the springs truly compressed, "glue" the collets to the valve stems with the suggested heavy grease. Taking the inlet manifold off makes it much easier.

I use "Assemlee Goo" its used for putting automatic transmissions together. Just a little dab with a screw driver on the valve stems and
the keepers stay put. You can push them around with your fingers and they still stay put. It makes the job go twice as fast as you arent't chasing
the keepres that would keep falling off.....

Thanks everyone.
I should have known about the "glue" thing myself.
I ordered Assembllee Goo green.
Have a nice week and hopefully better weather than here in Bavaria.
