Rear Top Strap Info Needed For 09 Touring

Post by Bob McDaniel » Mon Jul 01, 2019 10:47 pm

I am getting ready to order the rear straps for the new top on my 09 Touring and all I find listed have a "D" ring to mount to the car but mine should mount to the buggy rail. I thought about just cutting the ring off but then they would be short and not fit. Anyone got any pictures of the way they mount to the rail? Where do you find the right rear straps that I need so I can put my new top on before summer ends?

Hi Bob. This is how I did mine. The insert at left shows another car. Above, right is and old photo. I hope someone will chime in with whatever is more correct. This is just how I did mine with the info I had. The straps should be long enough to un-rivet and loop around the rail.

Check with Russ Furstnow, he should be able to set you up with the correct stuff for your '09

Mine are like Rich has, but my car left the factory without a top, the top is an aftermarket item ( supplied by the selling dealer I assume).

Bob, The straps I make are like the originals. The strap goes around the buggy rail and is held using a "Conway buckle". I make them in black leather with powder coated black buckles or brass buckles. Let me know if I can help. Russ Furstnow

Eventually the right people will put us on the right path. Until then I will try to give my best guesses to keep the thread alive.
Thanks Russ

Thanks for all the great info. The pictures Rich posted show two ways and I think the lower left is close to correct. I will contact Russ.
