Blockley tire update

FYI there is a tariff with Blockley tires.
They don’t charge you, you get a bill from shipper.
Still competitive with the other tire companies. Dan

Tire expense ought to be considered on a cost per mile of service basis. A quality tire that performs well over a long service life is a bargain, even at nearly twice the initial cost of an inferior tire.

That is why I am going to Blockley tire or as they say tyre.
Anything is better than what I have now on my Roadster pickup.
I just was giving anyone else a heads up. Dan

They are at the “gov wharehouse”. You will get an email from UPS telling you how much they charge you. Can pay driver or by PayPal. They kept mine about a week and half.
Strange that I got one right away, but they held the other one hostage. I guess one escaped is became an undocumented immigrant or whatever they are called now???🥸

I did just order another one today and saw the price has dropped some. So if you are thinking about getting some, better look into it.

Blockley did the right thing by making their tubes thicker. That's all. They refuse to remake the correct valve stems for these tubes, and can't even put a real rubber stem on them. The valve stems they are using are current valves that are the correct size for larger cars like a Cadillac. Not only that, because of the size they throw the wheels more out of balance than the correct size valve stem!

Stick-on weights will cure that.

Use balancing beads. They do work as claimed.

I like my Blockley tires. I agree with Larry about the tube. It is pretty heavy at the stem. I balance my tire so it’s just a little more weight.

If you go to the website and put what you want in you cart, you can get a quote for shipped to your door. Will NOT include the tariff. You get that after the shipment gets to US. That I can’t say what is. Mine was 120 for two tires.
Yesterday the price on website was 135 lb per tire. Down from 149. Cost to you depends on lb to dollars too.

All things being equal, all BE tyres originating in Viet Nam, all new stocks should rise in price at the same rate when the new tariff sets in.

Quote from Blockley arrived today, 9/16/2025.

135 Pounds/tire x 2 tires = 270 Pounds

Total cost of 405 Pounds or $553. (I assume shipping is 135 Pounds)

I did not ask what the tariff would be. $120 for Dan a few days ago.

Shipping is high because things are no longer shipped! They come every which way that is quicker, and far more costly. Most stuff is air cargo, hence the cost.

Most everything for sale in America today is literally shipped from China and elsewhere, most anywhere but from HERE. BUT, it is shipped in huge containers, by major concerns, in vast quantities. I don't think that small shipments, let alone individual customer shipments, fit into the modern day shipping paradigm. It's difficult to find anything currently made here in the USA anymore. Efforts are being made to correct the gross imbalance.

A friend of mine imports and "fixes" new flintlocks from India as there are no manufacturers in the US. He has a shipment ready but the cost with tariffs and shipping make it unaffordable. Most likely unless the situation is changed he will have to stop selling. As the largest supplier in the US this will be a significant hit to the field of reinacting as no US company would step up to fill the void. The cost would be so much there wouldn't be a market.

Flint is abundant in the USA.

Flint may be abundant, but no one is willing to make flints for rifles anymore. Most of the skill is lost except for a few, so we have to ship it in from India. Same with tires. When was the last time anyone made tires in the US? The cost would be prohibitive. Labor is just too expensive over here.

Every time I need a part for my T, I thank someone in this world who is willing to make it.

Tariffs and shipping costs may be deductible if you have tax liability. I'd think a gunsmith somewhere in the USA might be interested in producing antique gun parts, if a market exists. A jeweler might be equipped to produce flints.

There is a supplier in the US that does make parts and that's all they do. Finding a gunsmith to assemble the parts once you get them is another story. Before corona a complete India musket ready to fire would be 700 shipped to your door with a 1 to 3 month wait. An American made from parts was 3 to 4 thousand with a 2 to 5 year wait. Needless to say few would invest the time and money for American made. Pre tariff the price had increased from 700 to 1000 and the wait from months to over a year. Now the price would need to increase hundreds more to break even. Sticker shock for buyers who felt 700 was a huge investment in the past.

Since so many Model T enthusiasts prefer to reference pats by their proper name... :o

Currency
Symbol , Abbreviation , Name AKA
£ , GBP , Great British Pound , Pound Sterling, Pound
$ , USD , United States Dollar , Dollar
, EUR , Euro , Language by Eurozone Member State https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Language_and_the_euro

lb is the correct abbreviation for a unit of measure in pound(s). adding the s, lbs, is technically an incorrect abbreviation for the plural form

The vast majority of us do not know the code for Pound or Euro, and it is not on our keyboard, so we just use lb or lbs and E. If we are discussing costs I would hope anyone would know they stand for money and not weight.
