I came home with my cough and runny nose from OCF. It got worse with a fever and shortness of breath. You guessed it. Now I have an active case of COVID. If you present with one of those symptoms get yourself checked.

I haven't heard of any cases around here, but I don't think it ever went away completely or that it ever will. From time to time, a new variant is announced, but the furor seems to die down quickly.

I came home from a Watertown, NY vacation on 15 August and learned my morning runny nose was Covid.
Then, I was getting better, but I visited Charles Town, WV on 30 August.
Like the doc said, "you got it again son!"
It was clearing up, so I got the Covid and Flu shots on 10 September.
I woke up the next morning without the runny nose!
I am still wondering if the shot took an immediate effect!

Out of curiosity what's the treatment? If you are one for taking the shots you probably are up to date and you still got it. If you aren't for the shots taking one post isn't going to do anything to help. Other than that it sounds like the flu, go home get some rest and if it gets bad come to the hospital and we will try to treat the symptoms.
A friend of mine in the military was on deployment and some of the crew came back not feeling well, basically a cold. The medical department locked everyone up and tried isolation making everyone worse than if they would have just taken a sick day only because 2 tested positive.
Winter is coming up as is flu season. Is there that much of a difference between the flu and covid? After all you can get a vaccine for both and still get it. Am I missing something?

You can buy a kit at most drug stores and supermarkets that will let you determine whether you have Covid or the flu for about $15.
The best cure is not well known!

My wife and I have managed to avoid getting Covid from the date the first Covid case was announced in America, through the present date, probably since we are retired and only had to be around family. We've had every Covid vaccine as they came out and wore masks back in the time period when Covid was raging.

In the early stages of a covid infection, one can get an anti-viral to lessen the impact of the disease.
With the passage of time, covid is less viralent than in the early stages of the pandemic. However it can still be a serious illness for folks over 65, folks with diabeties, snd those with a compromised immune system (such as folks being treated for cancer). Therefore if one has covid, it is a simple act of human kindness to do one's best to limit the disease's exposure to others (as much as reasonably possible) since one cannot know the impact a covid infection could have on the random folks one comes in contact with.
It is helpful, therefore to know if one has been exposed to the disease. And accordingly, if one does come down with covid themselves, it is equally kind to inform those one has come in contact with that they may have been exposed.

I have gotten a vaccine whenever they became available....up to ten now I believe. No side effects from the vaccine that I'm aware of. I have had Covid three times, each time manifesting itself as a mild head cold and a general unwell feeling. I count myself lucky as to date, I'm aware of 15 friends, acquaintances and former students that have died of the disease. One died before the vaccine was available - one took the vaccine but had some serious co-morbidities but the rest just wouldn't take the vaccine for one reason or another. One couple we knew passed within hours of each other...
Anyway, I know where I caught it each time. Once, waiting my turn to register for outpatient surgery at a local hospital and twice at MTFCI banquets. One at the conclusion of the Michigan Jamboree and one a club Christmas Party. Funny timing - because of the first I missed Thanksgiving that year, because of the last I missed Christmas with my family.
If I suspect I have Covid, I take the home test and then call my primary doc. If their test confirms it they put me on Paxlovid for 5 days. Again, my symptoms have been mild but I isolate because I don't want to spread it.
Unfortunately, any time you put yourself in a group setting you are at risk. Just be aware and be vigilant. Make your decisions based upon medical evidence, not crackpots or social media. Covid can still bite!

I recommend COVId and Flu shots in late Sept or Early Oct. This gets you thru Christmas and January, the top season.
I was given dexametasone(a steroid) and a Duoneb treatment(breathing) to help with the coughing. Sent home with
a Paxlovid($350 was my copay, and now I am living on the couch. No parade tomorrow. Walked the dog, she had to dump,
and came hope. Coke for lunch.

The resumption of public school and college, plus the advent of indoor season for many, will assure the resurgence of colds and flu, just as it has for generations.
