What a neat looking vehicle Dean. Well done! I like the tailgate latches. Have you tried swapping them from one side to the other. You might be able to get rid of the spacer between the body sides and the latch hook.

Looking at the pictures it looks like latch "eyes" on the tailgate could be moved inward some to make things line up better.

Ya what the heck! This is up there with the question about where to get #0 wire for starter leads and then deleting the words in the main post. At this point can only guess the OP didn't have permission to post the photos?

I can only guess that helpful, well meaning suggestions with regards to tailgate latches led to some hurt feelings. I dunno...
