How do you guys attach new gas filter screen inside the “potato “?
Got some to replace and don’t want to reinvent the wheel. Thanks Dan

I have always soldered them in place.

Have used a little 25w elec solder pistol , removed the old screen, then touch around the edge to heat up the residue solder in the rim groove.

Lay in the new screen, touch tack in a few places so it won't shift. Then heat and apply solder....more you do the better you get

I lay screen across it, and pop in a manifold packing center ring doo dah, then trim. Works fine.

I did the job differently.
Originally the screen ws crimped in place by a thin outer rolled edge.
I put the outlet fitting in my lathe & cut a grove inside to fit a large snap ring.
Laid a larger piece of screen into the inside pocket & set the snap ring in then trimmed the excess screen.
Bonus advantage, I can easily replace the screen if it needs replacing when I hit 130 years old.

John is correct in my experience. The original screens were crimped in the brass fitting. If there is solder there, the screen has already been replaced at some time. Just do the same again.

Has anyone tried annealing the bras crimp ring and re crimping it?
