Help Removing wheel bearing race.

I am changing wheels on one of my cars. I’m going to change the front wheel bearings. One of the outer races is worn thin and there is not enough “ledge” to get behind to knock it out. I am looking for ideas before I try my “untested” idea. Thanks!

Carefully lay a MIG weld bead on the i.d. of the race, let it cool, and it will fall out when it shrinks.

Mike, if the race is junk, run a weld bead around it or heat it cherry red in two or three places and let it cool. Then turn the hub over and it will probably fall out on it's own. Dave

You could get on the edge of that with a sharp chisel, Ive never had a bearing race beat me. Come on Mike, you can do it!

Any kind of a weld on that bearing race will let it fall out!. That's the only way to get them out of a blind hole like in the top cover of a gear box. Done it many many times. Amazing!

Thanks for the ideas!. I like it. A bigger hammer and/ or more voltage. Tim the tool man Taylor would be proud. I will let you know how it goes. Thanks!

What is your "untested idea"?

Ground around on an old chisel. This allowed me to get over that little “hump” and get solid contact behind the outer bearing. Inner bearing was not an issue. Thanks

Nice tool work.
Have done similar with a modified long masonry star drill.
Would like to find this tool, made for the job! Curved to bump out the inner or outer race.
