Some call it the "low speed clutch". Some call it the "high speed clutch". The bible just calls it the clutch, with no reference to speed.

The Ford Instruction Book (owners manual) 1926, Page 8 'Operating the Ford'
...The first pedal toward the left operates the clutch.....pressed forward the clutch pedal engages the low speed...and the releasing of this pedal engages the high-speed clutch.

Does anyone TRULY understand how the Model T transmission really works ?!? It's essentially metaphysical.

Although this expression was first coined by science fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke and is called Clarke's First Law, it also fits for the Model T transmission: "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic."
101 years after its introduction, the Model T transmission and how it works is still magic to me!

There is no thing high speed on a Model T. There is only slow and slower.
